KS2 Years 3 - 6

Weekly Work: 13/07/2020

Dear Parents,

This week’s Music Home Learning activity is taken from the BBC Ten Pieces at Home web page.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/ten-pieces/ten-pieces-at-home/zjy3382

This week: Explore beginnings with Beethoven...

First...

Join Barney Harwood in exploring the music of Beethoven and one of the most famous motifs in musical history. (It has even been used in pop songs!)

Then...

Doctor Who composer Segun Akinola explores beginnings and sets a creative challenge based on Beethoven’s famous opening and the start of the BBC Proms.

Finally...

Upload your creative response to the Ten Pieces website for a chance to feature in their online showcase and on the BBC Proms website.

It would be great to see how the children get on, so if you have time to video them playing, I would love to see the results. Email me at:

Choose one of the three pieces from weeks 7, 8 or 9 and get creative!

Weekly Work: 18/05/2020

Dear Parents,

I am setting all of KS2 a composition challenge!

This week I would like the children to have a play on Incredibox.

https://www.incredibox.com/demo/

Choose a character, then drag and drop the different symbols onto your character to create your music.

Click on the circle icon with three stripes on it (top left hand corner) and press the record button.

You can add and remove sounds as it is recording to change the texture.

Once finished, press the record button again and save your work.

Do not use your real name as this will appear on Incredibox’s playlist.

Next email it to me at music@st-peters-sittingbourne.kent.sch.uk and I will put your work in the Music Page Gallery. You can put your real name in the email so I know who it is from, as only I can see this. You can also share your work to the school Facebook page – let’s see how many ‘likes’ you can get!

Have fun – I love playing with this!

Dear Parents,

I would like the children to continue their music learning while we are not at school by using the BBC Ten Pieces resources and various You Tube videos.

I will suggest pieces for them to study, and it would be great if you could use some of the resources with them to make your own creative response – drawing/dance/body percussion/garageband compositions/ whateve

r you fancy! These can be uploaded to the BBC Ten Pieces website or the school Facebook page if you want to share them.

The first piece I would like them to look at is the Doctor Who Theme by Delia Derbyshire.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/ten-pieces/classical-music-delia-derbyshire-doctor-who-theme/zfh792p

Please watch the film and have a look at the KS2 lesson plans for activity ideas. If you have access to Powerpoint, have a look at the KS2powerpoint presentation, pick the activities that appeal the most and have a go!

To play along on your instrument go to the Multi-Ability Instrumental Arrangements Beginner parts, and you will find sheet music for many different instruments. If you have no instrument available, try playing the drum part on household objects, or use Garageband as your instrument. A good place to start would be on the Smart Keyboard playing the Beginner Recorder part.

Good luck and enjoy!

Love to you all,

Mrs Michell
