Using Explorify as a discussion starter, as a class, we did a 'Zoom In, Zoom Out' activity based on Materials. As we zoomed out, the children shared their thoughts and ideas, and eventually we discovered what the object was....it was a wellington boot, made from rubber and therefore, waterproof.
This led to a further discussion on what is and isn't, a waterproof material. Within COOL Time, the children then built a den and got a tarpaulin to cover it, as they thought that that would make it waterproof. To prove if it was, the children all gathered in the den and allowed Mr Tierney to throw a bucket of water (or 10) over the den, placing their trust in its waterproof qualities to keep them dry!
Thankfully, it worked!
