Dear Parents and Carers,
Following on from the success of the Remembrance and Nativity Garden we would like to continue to develop the pond area into a Spiritual Garden for all the children and their families to use for reflection and prayer.
As the Church turns its attention to the season of Lent, the RE team have been brainstorming ideas as to how we can make the garden a reflective space which signifies the importance of this time. One idea was to have planters made from old tin cans hanging up on the fences. As such, we would like to ask all families to donate a clean, painted tin can (baked bean size) and if possible a small plant (petunia, pansy, daffodils, primrose, mini sunflowers etc) that we can use in this space. They can be painted any colour but we recommend that it is made waterproof as it will hopefully be left out all year round – painting over the top with PVA glue or varnish will waterproof it.
Once you have painted it, we would ask you to please make a small hole at the top and thread some string through and one underneath for water drainage. We hope to hang these around the garden and start our reflective journey of the liturgical seasons throughout the year. Please see the pictures above and below for ideas.
We have not set a deadline for this activity in order to allow everyone to complete this task when they have time. It will be lovely to see the garden decorations build over time; obviously though, it would be wonderful to start to see the tins coming in as soon as possible!
We thank you in advance for all your support and look forward to seeing all of the bright and colourful cans.
