In Year 3 our teachers are Mrs Baker, Mr Lawrence, Mrs James, Mrs England and Mrs Whitehead. Pupils are encouraged to do their best by listening and utilising the support of the teachers. In class we are fostering a ‘have-a-go’ mentality and are learning that mistakes are part of improving our work.
In Year 3, our topics are explored in a creative way through literature and we use fiction, non-fiction and poetry to encourage the children to learn in an independent manner. We will follow the mastery in maths programme, where children become confident in using different methods to solve problems, taking our time to thoroughly understand the theory behind the numbers and calculations. We will also use the Come and See RE programme to gain a greater depth of understanding of our religion, looking at scripture and applying those messages to everyday life.
The children will be set weekly spelling and times tables homework, either in their homework book or via the TT Rockstars and spelling frame websites. In Year 3 the children are expected to read every night for at least 15 minutes and should read aloud to an adult at least once a week. This will allow your child to practise their fluency in reading as well as honing their speaking and expressive skills. Occasionally they will be given booster homework to further their understanding and once a term the children will be asked to complete a creative task in preparation for the next term’s topic.
If you have any questions at any point throughout the year, do come and ask to speak to one of the teachers and we will endeavour to support and work alongside you so that your child gains confidence and independence actively participating in their learning.
